Erling Haaland has just shared the player who is his best friend at Manchester City

Erling Haaland says he has plenty of friends at Manchester City but singled out one man as the best of the lot.

 

 

The goal-scoring marvel has quickly become beloved at City thanks to his remarkable return of 71 strikes in just 75 games.

 

That love stretches to the members of the dressing room who Haaland says he has a great relationship with.

Speaking to The Official Man City Podcast, Haaland named Jack Grealish as his best friend at the club: “We are an amazing group of people. Yeah, players, but people as well.

 

 

 

“That’s two different things. One thing is players, the best team in the world. But there is also the human side of this club and these players.

 

“And you get along so well with others and you also perform better together.

“I have many friends. But I have to say Jack, I think. We have the same humour and love to joke with other people as well.”

Will the duo last?

Grealish’s contributions to City’s success last season are often vastly overlooked.

 

 

The Brummie might not have registered the most impressive numbers in terms of goals and assists but he was absolutely crucial to how City played and stormed to the treble.

 

The number 10 started 15 Premier League games in a row at the turn of the year as City really climbed through the gears and reeled Arsenal in. With the way he kept the ball and recycled possession, he helped City build their attacking patterns.

 

But things have changed this time around. Pep Guardiola has once again innovated his system and is now utilising his full-backs as the main source of width on both flanks.

 

 

On paper, Phil Foden is playing on the left but in action it’s Josko Gvardiol manning the flank while Foden tucks into a central role. It’s working wonders but, as a result, leaving little room for Grealish.

 

He has been named on the bench for the last four league matches, only coming on twice for just over an hour combined, and hasn’t started since the FA Cup tie with Huddersfield in early January.

 

It looks increasingly as though Grealish is no longer in Guardiola’s strongest starting XI. That could always change but for now he is on the outside looking in.

 

If it was to continue, it could lead to Grealish getting itchy feet. The desire for footballers to be playing every minute is strong and could see any player decide to leave, no matter the success they have enjoyed.

 

Let’s hope for Haaland’s sake, things don’t carry on this way.
