FA Cup: Guardiola reacts as Leyton fans sing ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’

In a recent FA Cup fourth-round match, Manchester City faced a challenging game against Leyton Orient, ultimately securing a 2-1 victory. During the match, Leyton Orient fans taunted City manager Pep Guardiola with chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning.” Guardiola, however, dismissed these taunts, focusing instead on the intensity and unique atmosphere of the FA Cup. He expressed satisfaction with the win and praised both teams for their performances.

This incident is reminiscent of a previous occasion in December 2024 when Liverpool fans directed the same chant at Guardiola during a Premier League match. In response, Guardiola humorously held up six fingers, symbolizing the six Premier League titles he had won with Manchester City. He acknowledged the nature of football rivalries and expressed respect for the opposing fans.

Despite the challenges and taunts, Guardiola remains focused on his team’s performance and continues to lead Manchester City through a demanding season.

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has responded to being mocked by Leyton Orient fans, as his team came back from behind to win their FA Cup fourth round tie on Saturday.

The hosts took a shock lead through a Stefan Ortega own goal in the 16th minute.

New City signing Abdukodir Khusanov and Kevin De Bruyne then scored after the break, to avoid an embarrassing exit.

During the game while the Premier League champions were trailing, the home fans at Gaughan Group Stadium were heard chanting: “You’re getting sacked in the morning” at Guardiola.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Guardiola said: “Fantastic! Well when they say, ‘You are going to sack in the morning’ not so much!

“But it’s a routine in all the stadiums right now.

With this result I think my chairman is not going to sack me tomorrow, that’s for sure!”

City’s next game will be on Tuesday night, when they play Real Madrid in the Champions League play-off.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola remained unfazed after Leyton Orient fans taunted him with chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning” during their FA Cup fourth-round clash. Despite the vocal home support, City secured a 2-1 victory, with Kevin De Bruyne playing a crucial role in their comeback.

Leyton Orient, the League One underdogs, put up a spirited fight and even took the lead, fueling the electric atmosphere at Brisbane Road. The home supporters seized the moment to mock Guardiola, but the experienced manager took it in stride. When asked about the chants after the match, Guardiola responded with a smile, emphasizing his respect for the FA Cup’s unique energy and the passion of lower-league fans.

This isn’t the first time Guardiola has faced such taunts. In December, Liverpool fans directed the same chant at him, to which he humorously responded by holding up six fingers, signifying his Premier League titles.

Despite the lighthearted jibes, Guardiola remains focused on leading City to more silverware. The FA Cup remains a key target, and City’s ability to grind out results in tough fixtures proves they are still a force to be reckoned with in English football.
