Furious Kevin De Bruyne exchanges words with Pep Guardiola during Liverpool vs Man City title clash

The Belgian international didn’t take too kindly after being subbed by Pep Guardiola during City’s clash with Liverpool

Kevin De Bruyne was embroiled in a touchline spat with members of the Manchester City bench after he was substituted during his side’s clash with Liverpool.

The Belgian international was brought off to be replaced by Mateo Kovacic after 69 minutes played on Merseyside and was left visibly frustrated by his manager’s decision. It had been a puzzling afternoon for one of City’s brightest stars, with Jurgen Klopp’s men tactically marking him out of the game for large periods.

Opting to bring more control back to the Blues midfield, De Bruyne could be seen arguing with not only Guardiola but also other members of the bench, before taking his seat in an irate manner. City had taken the lead during the first half through John Stones, only for Alexis Mac Allister’s penalty to draw Liverpool level in an entertaining top-of-the-table clash.

Gary Neville, working alongside Peter Drury and Jamie Carragher on duty for Sky Sports, explained how City’s frustrations were merely coming to the front by the actions shown by De Bruyne on the touchline at Anfield earlier this afternoon.

“Well that tells you all you need to know about how Liverpool are controlling this game,” began Neville, as he attempted to shed further light on the situation unfolding.

“He’s having a little whinge at Pep Guardiola, well actually it’s a big whinge! He’s still going, look. This ground does something to them, we know how good City are, they’re one of the best teams in the world but Anfield never goes well for them and it hasn’t in this second half.”

Goalkeeper Ederson was forced off just 11 minutes into the start of the second half of Manchester City’s Premier League heavyweight clash with Liverpool at Anfield through injury.

The Brazilian goalkeeper was guilty of clattering Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez just three minutes after the restart, rushing out to try and beat the Uruguayan to an under-hit back-pass from City defender Nathan Ake. He connected with the former Benfica man with force, resulting in Liverpool earning a penalty.

Alexis Mac Allister stepped up and brought Liverpool level, cancelling out John Stones’ first half opener. That was only after Ederson had received treatment from the City medical staff.💕😂😂😂😂

He was able to face the penalty but went down again just a few minutes later, clearly suffering as a result of the coming together with Nunez. He was eventually forced off and replaced by Stefan Ortega.

Ederson was surrounded by two club medical staff, a member of St John’s Ambulance and Kyle Walker, all of whom were checking on his condition. Strong enough to be able to walk off the pitch, opposed to being carried off on a stretcher, the shot-stopper went straight down the tunnel after being withdrawn.

Prior to his premature exit, the Brazilian was largely untested, being forced into making just one save. His exit meant both City and Liverpool proceeded without their respective first-choice goalkeepers, with Alisson missing out for the hosts from the start through an injury of his own.

Ederson has started all but one of City’s 28 Premier League games this season, only previously missing out when the Blues beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium back in October. City boss Pep Guardiola will no doubt issue an update on the goalkeeper in his post-match press conference.
