‘He’s incredible’… Mateo Kovacic says Man City are ‘lucky’ to have 23-year-old star

Mateo Kovacic believes Manchester City are lucky to have a certain player in their ranks.

Manchester City marched on to the FA Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday with an emphatic 6-2 victory over Luton Town.

With the win, Pep Guardiola’s side are still in the running to claim an unprecedented back-to-back treble as they have one foot in the Champions League quarter-finals and are a point off Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Though Kevin De Bruyne certainly did his bit with four assists, it was the Erling Haaland show at Kenilworth Road as the Norwegian sensation bagged five of the goals.

It’s the second time Haaland has scored five times for City following his display against RB Leipzig last season.

Mateo Kovacic got the sixth goal with a fine strike of his own and he raved about Haaland after the match.

Mateo Kovacic praises Erling Haaland

Speaking to beIN Sports, Kovacic said: “I mean he’s incredible.

“Scoring goals is what he loves and it’s what he does best. I have never seen anything like it, how he finishes.

“He’s a young player still. An amazing mentality and we are really lucky and happy to have him with us and I hope he will score many more.”

Incredible Erling Haaland

Just when doubts were beginning to creep in from certain corners over Haaland, he goes and shuts them all up with a deadly clinical performance.

The 23-year-old had just 11 touches inside Luton’s box but still managed to turn that into five goals. Simply incredible.

Though any question of Haaland’s quality was dubious, it was fair to say he was still feeling his way back to full fitness.

He had only scored three goals in his seven matches since injury – low for him – but that has now rocketed back up eight in eight.

It should serve as a massive confidence boost at the perfect time with big matches against Manchester United and Liverpool on the horizon.
