‘His contribution was massive’… Guardiola says ‘unbelievable’ player Man City sold in 2022 was so important

Pep Guardiola has shared his praise for Raheem Sterling and what he did during his time at Manchester City.

The winger spent seven years at the Manchester club before making his move to Chelsea in the summer of 2022.

With the Englishman set to make a return to the Etihad Stadium later today when the two sides meet for their latest Premier League game, Sterling’s former manager has been sharing his thoughts on him.

Speaking in his latest press conference ahead of today’s match against Mauricio Pochettino’s side, Guardiola had this to say about Sterling and his time at City.

He said: “Unbelievable. He was there, especially in the first season, we could not think about what he would achieve with us.

“He was an incredibly important player with us. His contribution was massive. His speed, his movements, he was a great player.”

The Citizens paid £49m to sign Sterling from Liverpool back in the 2015 summer transfer window and went on to see him make 339 appearances for the club.

During his time at City, the winger scored 131 goals, delivered 95 assists and won numerous trophies including four Premier League titles.

This highlights just how much of an impact he had at the club and how much of a key part he played in the success they had when he was there.

With Guardiola now showing his admiration and respect for what Sterling did during his days as a City player, this should leave every football fan with no questions about the winger’s ability or his experience as a key figure in City’s recent history.

Looking ahead to today’s match against Chelsea, it will be Guardiola’s and his players’ focus to make sure Sterling has a quiet game and isn’t able to help his side pick up a positive result.
