” I think he is so good” – player urged to move to Manchester City, Guardiola style really suits him

Now that Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong is back to having his future discussed in the rumour mill, even Manchester City are getting named as a potential destination for him.

Those claims are made by former coach John van den Brom, who this week spoke to Studio Voetbal.

The ex-manager is quoted by Voetbal Primeur discussing De Jong’s future, and claimed that Manchester City would be a suitable destination for him.

“I think he can play anywhere. I think he is so good. Despite Barcelona’s difficult season, he always gets a passing grade. So that says a lot about his qualities. I would also prefer to see him at Manchester City,” said van den Brom.

Former Barcelona winger Ibrahim Afellay also agreed with that.

“That really suits him. The way he plays football. Whether it is as a sliding central defender, which often happens in Guardiola’s teams, or in midfield. That’s where I would really like to see him.”

Following all the rumours that have been linking Frenkie De Jong to a Premier League move in the past few years, the recent stories claiming he should leave Barcelona soon have now reawakened that gossip.

The likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have all been linked to him in the past few days, with reports even claiming that Spurs would like to spend up to €70m on his signing.

The truth is that Manchester City are still to be mentioned in the race, though, so we may not see van den Brom’s desire actually happening, unless Pep Guardiola decides he should sign the midfielder.
