‘I won two without him’ – Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has opened up on the club’s struggles this season
Bernardo Silva refuses to blame injured star for Man City struggles
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City defeated West Ham 4-1 to make it consecutive wins for the first time since October last year.
However, as far as the title is concerned, the damage has already been done as City are currently way off the pace.
After the win over West Ham, Bernardo Silva was asked about the situation and if the long-term injury to Rodri derailed their season.
City had managed only two wins in their final 14 matches of 2024 before thrashing West Ham on Saturday.
The 30-year-old said (via City Xtra);
“I won two Premier Leagues without Rodri. Kevin De Bruyne, who is in my opinion, and probably many, the best player in the history of Man City and one of the best in the Premier League, spent at least six months injured in two of the six titles we won.

“Of course Rodri is important, there is no player like him in the world.
“The main reason [for our poor performances] is not missing him, we didn’t have defenders.
“Individually we needed to do a little more and realise we weren’t at the level…”
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are looking to re-sign Leroy Sane amidst interest from rivals Liverpool and Chelsea.
Manchester City were a dominant force in the Premier League for years but things haven’t really gone according to plan for them this season. They have been far from their best and Pep Guardiola is looking at the winter transfer window as an opportunity to reinforce his squad.
The Spanish manager wants to add more quality in midfield as well as attack. City are closely monitoring the situation of their former star Leroy Sane and according to a report from Football Insider, Guardiola’s team are all set to battle it out with Chelsea as well as Liverpool for the services of the Bayern Munich winger.
Sane was a key figure at Manchester City but they ended up selling for around £55 million to the German giants in 2020. He has done wonders for Bayern over the years but it seems his time at the club is coming to an end.
Leroy Sane could return to the Premier League
His current deal runs out at the end of the season and there are no signs of a potential renewal. Sane is no longer a regular starter at the club under Vincent Kompany. He has only started in seven of his 17 league and Champions League appearances.
Sane is all set to be a hot property in the transfer window this month as he has entered the final six months of his contract. The 28-year-old is free to sign a pre-contract with foreign clubs but it seems there is a high chance of him switching clubs this month.
English clubs are looking to bring him back to the Premier League this month. Liverpool and Chelsea are two clubs that have been keeping a close eye on him for a while now. The Reds are looking at him as an ideal Mohamed Salah replacement while Chelsea are looking to add more experience to their attack by signing Sane.
Manchester City are looking to steal a march
Manchester City have entered the race for their former star and they are all set to rival both Chelsea and Liverpool. Injuries to key players and the form of some of his stars have caused quite a few problems for Guardiola.
He wants to add more quality and depth on the flanks and City are looking to once again bet on Sane. While they have been linked with the German winger, a return to the Etihad would be a real shock.
