“it depends”- Pep Guardiola reveals what Jack Grealish must do to get him back in the Manchester City line-up
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola recently discussed the challenges that Jack Grealish has faced in breaking into the first-team starting line-up and what needs to be done for him to regain his place.
Grealish has experienced a difficult season with fitness struggles and form affecting his consistency in the team’s line-ups. Despite this, he was given a start in the UEFA Champions League against FC Copenhagen but suffered a groin injury just 21 minutes into the game, leaving him visibly upset.
Guardiola emphasized that Grealish’s form and performance will determine his return to the starting line-up and highlighted the need for him to regain full fitness.
“It depends on his form, and his performance. It depends on that,” Pep Guardiola said. “It depends on him. We will need time. If one player gets injured after 10, 15 minutes it’s because still they were not fit, fit at all.”
As Manchester City faces a series of upcoming fixtures, Grealish is expected to be in contention for a match against Manchester United on March 3, making his role this season crucial.
In the meantime, Guardiola will rely on other players in wide positions, such as Jeremy Doku and Oscar Bobb, to fill the void left by Grealish’s absence. Bobb took on the left-sided position in a recent game against Brentford, which resulted in a 1-0 win for Manchester City.
Grealish’s return to form and fitness will be pivotal as Manchester City navigates through a congested fixture schedule in the coming weeks. Guardiola’s expectation is that once Grealish is fully fit and performing well, he will have the opportunity to reintegrate into the first-team starting line-up.
As the team continues to compete in various competitions, including the Premier League and Champions League, Grealish’s contribution will be eagerly anticipated. With the support of his manager and teammates, Grealish will have the opportunity to make a significant impact as Manchester City aims for success in the remainder of the season.
