Jamie Carragher says Man City currently have a player who’s simply better than David Silva
Jamie Carragher believes Kevin De Bruyne has surpassed David Silva during his time at Manchester City.
The pundit lauded De Bruyne after his virtuosic display against Newcastle United during the latest episode of The Overlap’s Stick To Football show.
Interestingly, it was recently revealed that Fernandinho believes the Spaniard is the best player he has ever played, even over the Belgian.
Jamie Carragher believes Kevin De Bruyne is better than David Silva
Ever since De Bruyne started to dominate proceedings in England, he has been constantly likened to Silva.
Before the treble-winner’s arrival, the diminutive technician was widely viewed as the club’s best creative midfielder.
However, Jamie Carragher believes Kevin De Bruyne is in a league of his own when compared to his former Manchester City teammate, David Silva.

“He [Kevin De Bruyne] is one of the best players we’ve ever seen”, he said on The Overlap’s Stick To Football show.
“I think De Bruyne, I’ve just said [he’s] one of the best players [we’ve ever seen in the Premier League], I think if you were picking an all-time Premier League XI, I think he gets in and I think of the players City have had, going back to [Roberto] Mancini’s time and you think of sort of that spine they had of [Vincent] Kompany, [Yaya] Toure, [Sergio] Aguero, [David] Silva was there, he’s above them all. I think he’s above them all.”
Whether Kevin De Bruyne or the Spaniard is better is a matter of preference
When comparing such greats of the game, there is not much that truly separates them.
Ultimately, the attributes that one values most decide which player they tend to believe is better than the other.
It seems like Jamie Carragher sides with Kevin De Bruyne due to how incredible of a matchwinner he has been for Manchester City in comparison to David Silva.
However, it would also be fair if say, another pundit preferred Silva due to his unrivalled ability to run proceedings from anywhere on the pitch.
Be it as a number eight or on the wing, the World Cup winner seemed to decide the pace at which the game should be played.
Kevin De Bruyne, however, is more adept at running a game rather than controlling the tempo of it.
As a result, whether De Bruyne or Silva is the greater midfielder comes down to preference.
What is perhaps inarguable is that both were elite at their fortes.
