Liverpool is currently preparing for a blockbuster clash against fellow Premier League title contenders Manchester City. The two sides are separated by just one point following the latest round of fixtures last weekend.

The Reds left it until the 99th minute to secure a win away at Nottingham Forest, as Darwin Núñez made a return from injury off the bench to meet Alexis Mac Allister’s cross in added time. Elsewhere, Pep Guardiola’s side came from behind against local rivals Manchester United to win 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

Before the showdown at Anfield on Sunday, both teams will have to navigate tough fixtures in Europe as City face FC Copenhagen in the Champions League and Liverpool line-up against Sparta Prague in the Europa League. Each side will be hoping to come out of these games unscathed with injuries, with problems already mounting up.

Liverpool has been one of the most impacted squads through injury across the entire 2023/24 campaign. Despite welcoming both Núñez and midfielder Dominik Szboszlai back in the last fixture, the likes of Diogo Jota, Ryan Gravenberch, Ben Doak, Alisson Becker, Joël Matip, Thiago Alcântara and Stefan Bajčetić will once again be absent for Liverpool.

However, there is a possibility that Klopp will receive a huge boost in the return of star man Mohamed Salah for this fixture after the German boss claimed he was not ‘too far off’ featuring at the City Ground. Salah picked up a hamstring injury on international duty with Egypt in January but made his return against Brentford last month where he would re-aggravate the same injury.

The 31-year-old forward has now missed the last four games due to the fresh setback but could be in line to return in Prague or at the weekend. Players such as Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones are also nearing a return, although this game likely arrives too soon for the homegrown duo.
