Despite not having played a minute of football in a Manchester City shirt, Rayan Cherki already seems to have become a fan favourite.
Manchester City fans are excited about Cherki’s signing and they believe he will bring a blend of genius and fearlessness that Pep Guardiola’s side was sorely lacking in the final third last season.
The Frenchman is one of the most gifted players in world football and looks tailor-made to become their creative hub after Kevin De Bruyne’s exit.
Speaking to reporters ahead of City’s clash against Wydad AC, Rayan Cherki vowed to “kill” Manchester United as he still upset about their shock 5-4 win against Lyon in the second leg of the Europa League semi-final against Manchester United: “I didn’t like it when Manchester United won the game against Lyon because I am a Lyonnais. Now I am waiting for the game [to] kill them.”
Naturally, Manchester City fans were over the moon about the highly-rated midfielder not hiding his hostility towards the Red Devils.

Man City fans hail Rayan Cherki after he vows to ‘kill’ Manchester United
One Manchester City fan reacted to Cherki’s comments about Manchester United by simply writing: “Give this man a 10-year deal.”
A second supporter lauded the 21-year-old by saying that other players at the Etihad Stadium need to have such a ruthless mentality: “Look at him bro, real mentality, need another 10 of him in the squad.”
A third Manchester City fan claimed that Cherki should be made captain after his admission about wanting to get one over Manchester United: “Make him captain already.”

A fourth fan claimed that Pep Guardiola’s men were in desperate of a confident character like the former Lyon midfielder: “Our team need this. Someone outspoken, slightly arrogant and 100% dedicated to winning.”
Considering Erling Haaland and Phil Foden are boyhood City fans who must naturally dislike United, another supporter pinpointed how their latest addition is just like them: “Haaland and Foden who hate Manchester United and now Cherki, let’s go!”
Finally, a sixth fan crowned Cherki as a Manchester City legend as he has embraced the age-old rivalry with Manchester City in some style: “Club legend status certified in the first week. Some boy.”

It’s clear to see that the prodigy already has the supporters’ backing after he did not hide his feelings about Ruben Amorim’s side.
Manchester United tried to sign Rayan Cherki in 2019
At the time, United’s strategy was to build a core of young British talent and sign a few young players from across Europe.
The Red Devils did not tend to even involve themselves in transfer battles for scholarship-aged players but they were prepared to offer a record-setting contract to the French international as a teenager.
But now that Manchester City signed Cherki for £33 million, he could make Manchester United regret their decision not to land his signature while having beaten his boyhood Lyon side on derby day.
