Man City and Pep Guardiola’s new mindset should worry Manchester United
Manchester City are in a familiar mindset going into a season-defining run of fixtures against Man United, Copenhagen, Liverpool, Newcastle and Arsenal.

The FA Cup quarter-final draw could have been worse – but it could have been better.
Newcastle have already knocked Manchester City out of one competition, and took them all the way in the Premier League in January. The FA Cup represents the Magpies’ only chance of silverware this season and also their best chance of qualifying for Europe.
Both City and Newcastle know that the draw will open up after the last eight. With Manchester United and Liverpool playing each other, they are only one favourable tie away from an FA Cup final. The last eight tie adds to City’s season-defining run of fixtures in March and into April.

The cup clash means City’s trip to Brighton looks likely to move back to the week of April 22, with all other midweek slots between now and the end of the season taken by league or potential Champions League fixtures (or needed for other rearranged games). There’s a free week in a fortnight, but not enough time to rearrange a fixture and bring it forward from its original date.
After narrowly beating Bournemouth on Saturday to move 18-games unbeaten, City boss Pep Guardiola made it clear that back-to-back 1-0 wins displayed a ‘Superman’ quality from his players. It was their sixth game in 20 days, with the results rolling on but performances more erratic and reliant on single goals.
“When people say, you play in the same conditions in the Premier League, no, no – we don’t have the same equality, we have much more games than the rest to play,” he said. “We demand too much of our players but they respond.
