Man City ‘expulsion’ is ‘on the table for the first time’ as new documents released – Wyness

Former Everton chief Keith Wyness has suggested potential “expulsion” is well and truly “on the table” for Man City if they are found guilty of their 115 outstanding financial charges.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested potential expulsion of the treble-winners has only recently cropped up as a viable punishment

The Premier League charged Man City with 115 financial breaches last year, with the alleged offences spanning nine seasons.

However, no case has yet been heard by an independent commission with a date believed to be set in 2025.

Premier League ‘expulsion’ now on the table for Man City, says Wyness

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest were punished with a four-point deduction for a single charge earlier this week – an offence which was classed as a minor rule breach.

In the 52-page document released by the independent commission, Robert Glancy KC, sports law specialist Mark Hovell and accountancy expert Steve Holt explain that a major breach could result in “expulsion” from the Premier League.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “For the first time, I’ve noticed the word expulsion cropping up in the report from Nottingham Forest’s hearing.

“City must be noticing that for the first time, as well.

“We don’t know yet, and they’ve got every right to plead the case, but expulsion does seem to be on the table given the severity of what’s supposed to have happened.

“We’re yet to see the evidence, though, and we need to get it going sooner rather than later.”
