John Stones was fit enough for the bench as Manchester City took on Arsenal

Manchester City have three players ruled out for Aston Villa with John Stones also a doubt.

Ederson wasn’t deemed fit enough for the Arsenal game after the injury he sustained in the Liverpool game. Kyle Walker missed out after his injury with England, while Nathan Ake was taken off in the first half. All three will miss City’s game on Wednesday with Pep Guardiola unsure on when they will return.

John Stones was an unused substitute against Arsenal despite Ake being forced off in the first half. The England international could be fit enough to make the squad, although there remain concerns over whether he will be able to play.

“He has to feel fully fit but the injury was less than we expected in the moment but we will see. For today and maybe for the next games, he will be ready,” said Guardiola.

“[Nathan is] injured. There are two months left so hopefully he will be back soon but I don’t know exactly the timings. For the next games, he will not be ready.”

City’s draw with Arsenal leaves them three points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool with an inferior goal difference. They may need to win all nine of their remaining games to win the title, although Guardiola does not think the fact that they have been able to put such runs together before will count in their favour this time.

“Experience is over. It doesn’t count,” he said. “It’s Aston Villa. When we were able to win a lot of games in a row before, we weren’t thinking about how many we were able to do. I would like to tell you but I don’t know. All I can do is prepare well against Aston Villa.
