WHAT HAPPENED?
According to The Sun, a woman, working as the alien mascot Moonbeam for City, says she took a knock to the back of the head from Haaland before their Premier League game at home to Southampton last October. The temporary staff worker, who does not want to be named, said she later threw up, suffered neck pain, and was concussed. The report states she reported this to the police but City’s investigation has come to nothing.

The report adds that notes from Salford Royal’s A&E confirmed her symptoms but a CT scan revealed no damage. Greater Manchester Police also told her Haaland ‘had not acted with malice’, but she accused City of trying to keep this quiet.
She said: “I’m sure Erling would have apologised to me if they had given him the chance. But they just wanted to sweep it under the carpet.”
WHAT MANCHESTER CITY SAID
A City spokesperson told The Sun: “It fully investigated and found that none of the evidence, including video footage, backed up the claim that an injury was sustained in the manner alleged. We’re also aware a complaint was made to Greater Manchester Police and no further action was taken by them either.”

Aside from this incident, Haaland could feature for City in their FA Cup quarter-final away at Bournemouth on Sunday.
Manchester City recently conducted an internal investigation following claims that striker Erling Haaland caused injury to a club mascot during a pre-match interaction. The incident allegedly occurred before a game against Southampton, involving the mascot known as “Moonbeam.” The mascot reported experiencing head and neck pain, leading to a hospital visit. Despite these claims, Manchester City’s investigation concluded that Haaland did not cause the reported injuries. Additionally, Greater Manchester Police cleared Haaland of any deliberate harm. The club stated that video evidence did not support the mascot’s allegations.

This incident adds to a series of events involving Haaland since his transfer to Manchester City in May 2022. In March 2023, he was investigated by Greater Manchester Police for allegedly using his mobile phone while driving in the New Islington area of Manchester. The investigation followed the release of video footage and photos by a newspaper. If found guilty, Haaland could have faced six points on his driving license and a £200 fine.
Despite these off-field incidents, Haaland’s on-field performance has been exceptional. By April 2024, he had surpassed the previous season’s scoring record, leading to widespread acclaim. His goal-scoring prowess has been a significant factor in Manchester City’s successes during this period.
In January 2025, amidst legal challenges faced by Manchester City regarding alleged financial rule breaches, Haaland extended his contract with the club until 2034. He expressed confidence in the club’s management and direction, stating that he did not consider the potential outcomes of the legal issues before signing the extension. This decision was seen as a testament to his commitment to the club despite ongoing uncertainties.
Haaland’s tenure at Manchester City has also seen moments of controversy on the field. In December 2023, the club was charged by the Football Association for failing to control their players during a Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur. Haaland was notably involved in a confrontation with the referee after a contentious decision, highlighting the intense emotions that can arise in high-stakes matches.
Furthermore, in September 2024, former Arsenal striker Ian Wright criticized Haaland for an incident during a match against Arsenal, labeling his actions as those of a “coward.” This critique stemmed from Haaland’s behavior during a particularly heated encounter, underscoring the scrutiny that top players often face.
In summary, while Erling Haaland’s time at Manchester City has been marked by extraordinary athletic achievements, it has also included various incidents that have drawn public and media attention. The club’s internal investigation into the mascot incident concluded with no findings of wrongdoing on Haaland’s part, allowing both the player and the organization to focus on future endeavors.
