It goes without saying that Manchester City own some of the greatest footballers on the planet – Rodri included.

The Spain international has arguably been the standout midfielder across Europe for the past 24 months – with many often highlighting the Manchester City No.16’s otherworldly passing skills as his best trait.

Now, a statistic has emerged which reinforces just how brilliant Rodri is when it comes to passing at Manchester City…

Rodri sits top of Premier League long passing charts

Well – as shown by WhoScored – the Spaniard boasts the best long ball completion rate of any other player in the Premier League since the start of the 2022/23 campaign.

Rodri has completed 77.5% of his attempted long balls since the beginning of last season, with Liverpool No.6 Thiago sitting second with a completion rate of 75% for the Reds.

That is quite the achievement for the £62.8m man – to say the least.

The fact that Rodri is not primarily known as an Andrea Pirlo style No.6 – who sits deep and pings passes around the pitch – speaks volumes about just how many strings there are to his bow.

In truth, the Madrid-born maestro can pretty much do it all.

As also shown by WhoScored, Rodri averages 2.2 shots per game in the Premier League as well as 2.1 tackles every 90 minutes – talk about a box to box midfielder.

Manchester City No.16 is still underrated

Despite his obvious brilliance, it still feels – to us at least – that Rodri is underrated.

A prime example of this was seen quite recently, when the 27-year-old found himself overlooked for the FIFPRO World 11 following a vote from his fellow footballers.

It was a decision which baffled Manchester City fans – understandably so – and emphasised the fact that Rodri’s brilliance is still going unnoticed by many, despite winning the treble last season.
