Man United and Man City combined XI based on market value – De Bruyne and Rashford miss out

All eyes will be on Manchester on Sunday as the city’s two biggest clubs meet in the English Premier League. The Manchester derby has grown in significance across the last two decades with Manchester City developing into England’s dominant side after investment from the Middle East.

Pep Guardiola’s side emulated their rivals by winning a famous treble last season and they are aiming to win their four consecutive title – a feat no other team has achieved in the Premier League era. Manchester United, conversely, have endured a dismal campaign and they are languishing in sixth ahead of their trip to the Etihad. Despite an impressive record in 2024, Erik ten Hag is under mounting pressure and United fans are fearing the worst ahead of a trip across the city. City have firmly claimed the bragging rights in this fixture across recent years, winning by five goals on three occasions. Guardiola’s men won this fixture 6-3 last season – the high-scoring Manchester derby – and claimed a comfortable 3-0 victory at Old Trafford in October. City’s squad is significantly more valuable (€1.26 billion) compared to United (€735.3 million) but we’ve looked at the combined eleven based on market value.

Unsurprisingly, eight Man City players feature in the combined eleven and only three Man United stars, with a total market value of €840m – injured players have been included. Ederson and André Onana are both valued at €40m but the United goalkeeper is included as he’s three years younger. Three City players make up the back four with Lisandro Martínez the only defender from United. Ruben Dias and Josep Gvardiol are the two most valuable defenders with market values of €80m, with the Croatian international at left-back and Dias partnering Martínez at centre-back. Kyle Walker is arguably the best right-back in the world but due to his age, Rico Lewis has a higher valuation of €38m.

Rodri is the most valuable midfielder at €110 and he is partnered by Portuguese duo Bernardo Silva and Bruno Fernandes. Kevin de Bruyne has been in scintillating form since his return from injury but he misses out as his market value of €60m is €10m less than Silva and Fernandes. There’s no place for Marcus Rashford in the front as three City players feature. Erling Haaland leads the line as the most valuable player in the team at €180m with Phil Foden and Julián Álvarez flanking the Norwegian superstar.
