Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is being linked with a potential departure from the Emirates after Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola previously talked up his chances of replacing him at the Etihad.

Recent reports in Spain have claimed that Arteta could replace Xavi at Barcelona after the legendary midfielder announced he will leave the Nou Camp. However, the Gunners’ boss is under contract at Arsenal until 2025 and talks have been underway over a new deal.

But one potential destination, should Arteta depart the North London club in the future, could be City if Guardiola calls time on his spell as manager. The pair worked together at City for over three years before Arteta left his role as assistant manager to succeed Unai Emery at Arsenal in December 2019.

“I’m pretty sure [he’ll succeed me]. He will have success,” Guardiola said about Arteta in September 2019. “Sooner or later it’s going to happen [Arteta becoming a manager]. He’s a young, young manager. He has experience already, handling big players and big teams.

“He’s got an incredible work ethic. He has a special talent to analyse what happens and to find solutions. We talk a lot about what he believes and how he feels.”

Guardiola said Arteta similarly saw the game to him, while also lauding the former Everton midfielder’s character. “He’s so happy when we win but suffers when we don’t and that is why he tries to find a solution,” he added.

“He’s an incredible human being, with incredible values about what it means in the locker room to be together, and he is already an incredible manager and he’ll have incredible success in his future. We see the football in really quite a close way.”

Guardiola’s current City deal runs until the end of the 2024/25 season, but the Catalan has previously hinted that he could extend his stay at the Etihad.

“I signed a contract for another two years because I feel comfortable – and nothing has changed whether we won (the treble) or didn’t win,” he said in August last year.

“I am happy and the people are happy, the board and the hierarchy especially, because they decide in the end which manager is going to lead this group of players.

“If they are satisfied, I am still satisfied. I want to defend what we won and maybe at the end of the season, if I am tired, we will talk with the club – or maybe extend more.”

Manchester United Vs Aston Villa.

Manchester United hosted Aston Villa at their home stadium and it was a tough and interesting 90 minutes of action for both sides. Manchester United scored early in the game as Nikita Parris scored the first goal of the game to make it 1-0 and she ended up scoring the second goal to inspire Manchester United to a 2-0 win in the first half of the game.

Rachel Daly got Aston Villa back in the game as she scored the 3rd goal of the game to make it 2-1 for Aston Villa but this wasn’t enough to stop Manchester United from securing 3 points at their home stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur Vs Manchester City.

Tottenham Hotspur hosted Manchester City at their home stadium and it was a tough and interesting 90 minutes of action for both. A defensive blunder by a Tottenham Hotspur defender led to an own goal and this was enough to inspire Man City to a 1-0 win in the first 45 minutes of the game.

Khadija Shaw scored the second goal of the game to double Man City’s lead and this has to be enough for them to secure 3 points against Tottenham Hotspur.

Man City and Pep Guardiola finally ended their Tottenham hoodo after Nathan Ake netted their first ever goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

City had never scored at Spurs’ new ground, losing all five games dating back to 2018, with several misses and much drama attached to their drought, which have included more than 100 shots.

They had failed to break the deadlock in their FA Cup fourth round clash on Friday evening after having 17 shots and it looked set to be a familiar story.

However, in the 88th minute a Kevin de Bruyne corner caused chaos.

And when, Guglielmo Vicario failed to deal with the Belgian’s inswinging delivery, the ball bounced off Micky Van de Ven and Nathan Ake was there to prod home, sparking jubilant scenes in the away end.

City had played for more than nine hours at Spurs’s stadium without scoring.

This included a 1-0 Champions League win in 2019, a 2-0 victory in the Premier League in February 2020, another 2-0 win in November that year, a 1-0 triumph in August 2021 and a 1-0 win in February last year.

Speaking ahead of the game, Guardiola admitted he has struggled to understand why their form has been so poor in north London.

‘It happened at White Hart Lane – not just this stadium,’ he said.

‘We play good – but not able to win. It’s happened many times but hopefully we can break it.

‘Spurs are exceptional, since Mauricio Pochettino was manager. Always you think, “why are they not able to be there in the last stages of the Champions Leauge?”‘
