Manchester City have confirmed Savio’s new squad number after completing the signing of the Brazilian winger.

It’s been a dull start to the summer on the transfer front for Manchester City but things burst to life on Thursday with the announcement of Savio’s arrival from Ligue 2 side and sister club Troyes.

The signing does not come as a shock as it was reported as far back as February that City had agreed to sign the 20-year-old prodigy.

Savio spent last season on loan at another CFG club, Spanish side Girona, and was sublime on his debut season in La Liga.

With 10 goals and 11 assists, Savio helped fire the unfancied Grino to a Champions League place and earned a spot in the La Liga Team of the Season.

His qualities did not go unnoticed, with the likes of Barcelona apparently showing interest, which forced City into action to secure the asset and bring him into the fold.

Now his new shirt number has been confirmed at the Etihad and it suggests he will have a big role to play in the forthcoming season.

Savio Man City squad number

City have confirmed Savio will wear the No.26 at the club next season.

Savio follows in the footsteps of fellow winger Riyad Mahrez, who also wore the jersey at the Etihad Stadium before his departure in 2023.

Given the Brazilian international has been handed a low number, it suggests he will be staying in Manchester and be a member of Pep Guardiola’s squad next season.

Savio could be about to follow in the footsteps of fellow South American Julian Alvarez at City.

When the striker was signed by the club many initially expected him to be sent out on loan to gain experience in European football.

Alvarez may have been the South American footballer of the year but, many surmised the jump from the Argentinian league to the Premier League would be too big to make.

He would go on to prove those doubters wrong by playing a crucial role in City’s treble triumph in his debut season while winning the World Cup for his country in the middle of it, too.

There have been similar questions asked of Savio, whether or not he will be loaned back out again or if he will be in the first team.

Reports so far do suggest he will be staying in Manchester and his squad number would suggest as much, too.

If Savio can have even half the impact Alvarez did in his first season then he will prove to be a great addition.
