Manchester City Injury Report: Pep Guardiola Suffers Another Huge Injury Blow as Fatigue Looms Over Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva Before Crucial Liverpool Showdown

Manchester City seems to be snakebitten when it comes to injuries. While it was just recently that they recovered from the formidable absences of Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne, Pep Guardiola has been dealt another significant setback. Just days before the headline showdown against Liverpool, the specter of injury looms larger than ever, with Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva facing fatigue issues.

Last night, Manchester City’s 3-1 victory over Copenhagen in the Champions League RO16 came at the cost of Matheus Nunes getting injured. The Portuguese midfielder was subbed off during the 2nd half, seemingly fracturing his left hand’s middle finger after a harsh fall. He was replaced by youngster Micah Hamilton.

This incident follows Jeremy Doku’s absence from the squad because of his fitness issues before the game, with Jack Grealish also ruled out until the international break. “We have injuries with Jeremy and Jack, we need to be fresh,” Pep Guardiola said in the post-match press conference. But the concern doesn’t end here.

The City boss confirmed that both Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva, who remained on the bench last night, are also feeling tired. “I spoke with them, they said many things, but they said ‘Pep, I’m so tired’. Okay, maybe the last 30 minutes if the situation is difficult you can do it,” he added. This adds to the team’s mounting concerns, as they are already slated to face Liverpool next. Speaking of which, the Cityzens are not alone in grappling with key injuries.

Liverpool is also caught up in an injury dilemma, ahead of facing Pep Guardiola and Co.

Jurgen Klopp’s side had also dealt with a lot of injuries in recent times. Players such as Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Diogo Jota remain sidelined for the time being, alongside long-term absentees Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara. Additionally, midfielders Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch are uncertain for City’s clash.

However, there’s a chance that the duo could participate if they feature in the Reds’ Europa League match against Sparta Prague. Despite Liverpool’s extensive injury list potentially benefiting City, it’s undeniable that the situation poses challenges for both sides. With Grealish sidelined, it remains to be seen whether Pep Guardiola will opt to utilize Foden, Silva, and Doku in the upcoming fixture.
