A recent report has revealed that a decision regarding the future of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was made at the end of last season. The Catalan coach is now in the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium, leading to concerns that the current campaign might be his last. Despite the outpouring of support, reports suggest an agreement was reached for Guardiola to leave at the end of this season. According to sources from The Athletic’s Sam Lee, it was decided last season that he would depart in the summer of 2025, when his current contract expires. However, there are indications that Guardiola might be reconsidering this decision, with whispers suggesting he is open to staying.

 

 

 

Guardiola has been asked about his future during press conferences but has mostly avoided providing specific details. He stated, “I fell in love since the first day I was here. What is going to happen will happen.” This suggests a level of uncertainty regarding his plans.

 

 

 

While Manchester City would prefer to secure Guardiola with a long-term deal, they acknowledge that his time with the club may be ending. They are reportedly open to a rolling agreement, allowing him the flexibility to leave whenever he chooses. This setup would enable the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach to continue on a yearly basis until he decides to conclude his coaching career at the Etihad Stadium.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, City are looking to the USA for their next January signing, with the said to have ‘sealed’ a deal for 17-year-old New York City FC left-back Christian McFarlane.

 

 

The teenager was first linked with City earlier this year, with the player now set to join after he turns 18 in January. McFarlane was born in England but moved to the USA at the age of three.

 

After representing both the USA and England at under-16 level, he has since focused on the Young Lions set-up, playing for England’s under-17s and making his under-18s debut last month.

The move for McFarlane follows a City swoop for another highly-rated MLS youngster, as the club have an agreement in place to sign 15-year-old Cavan Sullivan once he turns 18.

 

Sullivan made history earlier this year when he made his MLS debut for Philadelphia Union as a 14-year-old, meaning he was the youngest-ever athlete in the history of North American team sports.
