Manchester City miss out as target likened to Jude Bellingham agrees £9m move to Premier League rival

Manchester City have now missed out on Lucas Bergvall after the Swedish wonderkid agreed to join Tottenham.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano.

So, what is the situation involving Lucas Bergvall as Manchester City miss out? Let’s take a look…

Well, it was talkSPORT who claimed that Manchester City were monitoring the 18-year-old with Barcelona also keen.

Now – however – Bergvall has surprisingly chosen to join Tottenham after a late change of heart on transfer deadline day.

Romano wrote on X (previously known as Twitter): “Lucas Bergvall to Tottenham, here we go! Barcelona have just been told from player’s camp that he changed his mind and he will join Spurs. Tottenham ready to pay more than €10m (£9m) to Djugården with add-ons, agreement done. Medical will take place on Friday.”

It is quite the coup for Spurs.

Bergvall has been compared to none other than Jude Bellingham as a result of his maturity and physical dominance in the middle of the park, combined with strong technical ability.

The Tottenham new boy is also already a full Sweden international – he looks set to have a very bright future.

Txiki Begiristain hopefully attempted a hijack on Tottenham

It is unclear just how far Manchester City actually went in their pursuit of Bergvall.

However – while Pep Guardiola admittedly does not have much room in his central midfield department for another option right now – it would be disappointing if Txiki Begiristain did not even attempt to sign the teenager before loaning him out.

A sum of just £9m is nothing for a club of Manchester City’s wealth – especially when it comes to one of Europe’s most exciting talents – so the Citizens may easily look back on this deal as a missed opportunity.

Hopefully, it does not come down to that.
