Manchester City owners has given Pep Guardiola green light to sign young Euro 2024 star

Manchester City are reconsidering their decision to pull out of the race to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo, valued at £52m. Pep Guardiola and key figures at the club remain admirers of the Spanish midfielder, known for his silky dribbling and long-range shots, drawing comparisons to a young Luka Modric.

City’s renewed interest in Olmo comes as a result of his reported consideration of a move to their fierce rivals, Manchester United. The Premier League champions are unwilling to let Olmo join their neighbors, sparking a potential bidding war. Olmo’s release clause, set to expire on July 20, has sparked urgency in Manchester City’s pursuit.

The 26-year-old has impressed at Euro 2024, leading the race for the Golden Boot and set to start in the final against England. Manchester City believe they offer the best fit for Olmo’s style and success, with FourFourTwo agreeing that the club presents the ideal opportunity for the midfielder.

While Manchester City’s change of heart may seem surprising, their willingness to revive their interest highlights Olmo’s quality and potential impact at the Etihad Stadium. With the transfer window set to ignite, Manchester City’s move for Olmo could be one of the summer’s most significant deals.

The English Premier League is one of the highest-paying football leagues in the world.

Star players at top clubs can make very impressive salaries indeed.

The highest-paid players in the Premier League
Here we look at the ten highest-paid players in the Premier League in 2024.

10 Marcus Rashford (Manchester United) – £300,000
Mercurial Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has been on a weekly wage of £300,000 since signing a contract extension in July 2023.

Rashford’s current deal with Manchester United runs until 30 June 2028 while the star man also has a lucrative sponsorship deal with Nike.

9 Jack Grealish (Manchester City) – £300,000
Manchester City spent a then-British record £100 million to sign Jack Grealish from Aston Villa in August 2021.

At the same time they agreed to play the England midfielder £300,000-per-week.

8 Enzo Fernandez (Chelsea) – £315,000
Enzo Fernandez is rather incredibly contracted to Chelsea until 2032 after signing a long-term deal when he joined the London club in January 2023.

Fernandez is currently sidelined with a groin injury but the versatile midfielder is still a key player for the Blues.

7 Jadon Sancho (Manchester United) – £320,000
Jadon Sancho has proven an expensive flop for Manchester United although he is currently out on loan to Borussia Dortmund.

Still Manchester United have Sancho under contract until the end of the 2026 season and will likely be looking to offload the player in the next window.

6 Raheem Sterling (Chelsea) – £325,000

Raheem Sterling’s massive wages have also proven a frustration for Chelsea.

Sterling is tied to Chelsea until 2027 on his current deal and the club’s attempts to move him on have met with resistance from the player.

The five highest-paid players in the Premier League
5 Raphael Varane (Manchester United) – £340,000
For now Raphael Varane remains the fifth-highest paid English Premier League player.

Varane has agreed to be released from his contract at the end of the season by mutual agreement.

4 Casemiro (Manchester United) – £340,000
Although Casemiro has excelled at times, there were some who questioned Manchester United’s decision to pay £60 million for the 31-year-old midfield player and give him a long-term deal. It might be said that those sceptics were justified.

Despite the expense, the former Real Madrid star signed a four-year contract with the possibility of an additional season.

3 Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) – £350,000
Liverpool agreed to make Mohamed Salah their highest-paid player ever when he signed a new deal in July 2022.

The Reds have received huge offers for the Egyptian forward from clubs in Saudi Arabia.

2 Erling Haaland (Manchester City) – £375,000
In the summer of 2022, Erling Haaland signed a five-year contract with Manchester City, making him one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League.

For Pep Guardiola’s club, the Norwegian sensation has been breaking scoring records at will. Thanks to a respectable goal bonus, he frequently receives additional payments from the club.

The highest-paid player in the Premier League
1 Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) – £400,000
Kevin De Bruyne, the anchor of Manchester City’s midfield, shot to the top of the list in April 2021 after agreeing to a long-term contract at the Etihad Stadium.

The 32-year-old has contributed significantly to the team’s success over the previous five Premier League titles and is perhaps the most significant addition to the roster during Khaldoon Al Mubarak’s ownership.
