Manchester City put off after hearing they will have to pay almost £60m to sign 18-year-old wonderkid

A report has claimed that Manchester City are one of the clubs that are put off the asking price in place for Lille defender Leny Yoro.

Earlier this month, it was claimed that Manchester City had opened talks to sign the Frenchman.

It was also reported that City were asked to pay a sizeable fee of £78 million to sign the teenage sensation.

Manchester City put off by £59.7 million asking price for Leny Yoro

The 18-year-old has started 17 out of 19 Ligue 1 games for Lille this season, proving to be a key cog in their side.

It’s safe to say that Yoro’s displays have caught the eye, with him emerging as one of Europe’s most talented young centre-backs.

It has been reported by le10sport that the asking price of €70 million (£59.7 million) that has been quoted for Leny Yoro has put off the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United.

However, it has been revealed that the Premier League trio are expected to try and sign the highly-rated defender in the summer of 2024.

With Yoro’s contract at Lille set to expire in 2025, the Ligue 1 side may be forced to let go of their precocious talent.

Manchester City should continue to budge

As talented as Leny Yoro is, Manchester City must stray clear from paying as much as £59.7 million fee to sign him, in our view.

Firstly, the fee in question is simply far too high for quite an unproven prospect.

While Leny Yoro is getting plenty of minutes this season, during the 2022/2023 campaign, he just started eight league games.

Secondly, the treble-winners have centre-backs galore and unless the club expect a departure in defence, they simply have no reason to strengthen said area of the pitch.

Even if the rationale at the Etihad Stadium is to convert Yoro into a full-back, it may be far too much responsibility to hand such a young player who would have to adapt to several other facets of playing in England in the first place.
