Manchester City set to challenge the associated party transaction (APT) if they fail to agree with latest Premier League proposal
Manchester City could challenge the associated party transaction (APT) rules again if they don’t agree with the Premier League’s latest proposal.
That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the upcoming vote is likely to be just the first step in the process rather than a complete solution to the dispute.
Man City took legal action against the Premier League regarding the APT rules currently in place at an arbitration hearing in June.
Both sides have claimed a victory in the case after the arbitration panel’s decision was published last month, where two aspects of the rules were deemed to be unlawful.
The Times reported on 6 November the Premier League has issued proposed amendments to the APT rules that could open the door for top-flight clubs to agree significantly more lucrative sponsorship deals.
The 20 member clubs will meet on 22 November to vote on the proposed changes.
Premier League vote unlikely to solve Man City dispute
“We will see whether the changes get through,” Borson told Football Insider.
“It will be interesting to see what happens and whether this is just going to end up being a bit of a rerun of what happened in December 2023, where Man City said ‘We don’t think this stuff is legal and, if you go ahead, we may challenge it legally’.
“Ultimately, City were right.

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly held talks to sign an England international attacking star from Manchester City. Let’s dive in.
Tottenham has been recently linked with Manchester City midfielder, Jack Grealish. Grealish, a 29-year-old currently playing for City, has struggled to secure consistent playing time with the club, fueling speculation that discussions may be underway regarding a possible transfer away from City.
However, according to sources from GMS, both Manchester City and Grealish are not actively pursuing an exit at this time, and selling him is reportedly not on the club’s immediate agenda.
Football Transfers has reported that Tottenham’s director, Johan Lange, has engaged in discussions about a potential move for the English international.

Yet, there are rumors that Tottenham may hesitate to fully pursue this opportunity due to the financial costs involved, possibly forcing the club to look at other options.
One key challenge is Grealish’s high salary, which exceeds that of any player currently on Tottenham’s roster. Manchester City signed Grealish for a substantial fee of around £100 million, a British transfer record at the time.
If Tottenham were to successfully negotiate and secure this transfer, it would set a new record for the club’s spending. Such a deal would likely involve complex negotiations, as Manchester City would need to be persuaded to part ways with their high-profile signing.
Only time will tell whether Tottenham is willing to invest heavily in Grealish and make him a record-breaking signing for the club. This could give the team a fresh boost, though it would need some thoughtful budgeting and planning.
Jack Grealish’s recent performance has been limited, as he’s been sidelined by an injury sustained in a match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
This has led to rumors that City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, is unhappy with Grealish’s call-up to the England squad for upcoming fixtures, given his recent absence from club matches.
Here are Jack Grealish’s statistics with Manchester City this season so far:

It’s also worth noting that Grealish was once a pivotal figure at Aston Villa, known for his creative play and influence on the field.
Despite not reaching the same heights in recent seasons at Manchester City, the prospect of Tottenham pursuing him remains intriguing. If Spurs decide to take the financial leap and negotiate a deal with City, it would be a bold move that could reshape the team’s dynamics significantly.
