Erling Haaland will probably be out until the end of January, according to Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City.

The prolific Norwegian striker has missed City’s previous eight games, including their Club World Cup success in Saudi Arabia, with a foot ailment.

Although City had planned to have the 23-year-old back in full training early in the new year, the issue is proving to be more problematic than anticipated.

It is currently anticipated that he will be able to return to work when the team leaves for a warm-weather training camp in Abu Dhabi after Saturday’s match against Newcastle, without a match the following weekend.

Guardiola acknowledged that the player has experienced some unsettling issues with his feet. The physicians agreed to take a week off and possibly resume in Abu Dhabi, but everything is great.

“Hopefully, he’ll be prepared by the end of this month. At first, it was a little bit more than we had anticipated.

Haaland has already scored 19 goals this season and finished with 52 goals in his stellar debut season with City.

Guardiola believes that his explosiveness has been greatly missed.

Another setback for City is that defender Manuel Akanji will be out for a while.

After taking a strong challenge, the Switzerland international was substituted out of the FA Cup match against Huddersfield last weekend.

He goes on the injury list with John Stones, the centre back.
