Chelsea failed in their bid for a sixth straight win as they had to settle for a point against 10-men Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

Enzo Maresca’s side went into the game looking to strengthen their challenge for a top four place after the first seven games of the season. The Blues had won their last five matches in all competitions in a run which had seen them move up to fourth place in the Premier League table ahead of the visit of Forest.

After a goalless first half, Chelsea found themselves 1-0 down when Chris Wood scored from close range from a set-piece. But it didn’t take too long for the Blues to respond with Noni Madueke scoring his fourth Premier League goal of the season in the 57th minute.

With Chelsea pushing for the winner, they faced 10 men for the last 12 minutes of normal time. James Ward-Prowse was shown a second yellow card after handling the ball to prevent Nicolas Jackson from charging towards goal.

Despite the man advantage, Chelsea were unable to find a way past Forest’s defensive block to take all three points. The result leaves Maresca’s men in fourth place, on the same points as fifth-placed Aston Villa.
