Morgan Gibbs-White believes Kevin De Bruyne is not the greatest midfielder in Premier League history yet.

 

The Nottingham Forest talisman opted for Paul Scholes as the undisputed best and went on to briefly explain why the Manchester City legend is not up there yet during an interview with Sky Sports.

 

Recently, Robbie Savage also favoured the retired midfielder over the £54 million (Guardian) man.

While the greatest player in every position in the Premier League has long been debated, none more so than in midfield.

 

Some believe the answer is either one of the English trio of Steven Gerrard, Paul Scholes or Frank Lampard. Others side with the modern-day great, Kevin De Bruyne while there are also suggestions that the likes of Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira deserve to be crowned as the undisputed best.

 

But after Morgan Gibbs-White was quizzed about why neither him nor Neco Williams, who opted for Steven Gerrard did not pick Kevin De Bruyne as the greatest-ever Premier League midfielder, he had a simple explanation.

“He’s still got time, still got time”, he told Sky Sports.

 

What more does Kevin De Bruyne need to do?

 

In our view, the rationale presented by Morgan Gibbs-White about Kevin De Bruyne begs the question of what he must do at this point to be considered the greatest midfielder in the Premier League era.

 

It’s safe to say that the 32-year-old’s argument to be viewed as the best of all time is perhaps the fairest out of the bunch.

 

Not only may Kevin De Bruyne be the biggest difference-maker out of the candidates for the title in question but he has also won every single trophy in the book.

 

While Gerrard is perhaps the only legendary midfielder to have spearheaded his Liverpool side in the same vein as De Bruyne, he does not have a Premier League title to his name.

 

The case makes itself for De Bruyne already.
