Neil Warnock says £378,000-a-week man at Man City is genuinely the best he’s seen

Neil Warnock has claimed that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola could be the greatest manager he has ever seen.

Recently, Arsenal technician Oleksandr Zinchenko used one word to describe his former manager: “winner.”

Al-Nassr centre-back Aymeric Laporte also described the Catalan boss as “the best tactical coach in the world”, highlighting how those who have worked with the 53-year-old remain in awe of his genius.

In January, Martin Keown also crowned the £378,846-a-week man as the greatest manager in the history of football.

Now, Neil Warnock has also agreed with the Arsenal legend about Pep Guardiola.

“I’ve always got on well with Jose [Mourinho], [Arsene] Wenger, always had a nice chat with them you know and what have you.”

“I like Pep [Guardiola]. I think Pep’s been the greatest thing that’s happened while I’ve been here. I saw him last week and he was talking to me, picking my brains about one or two things!”, he said on the Tubes and Ange Golf Life YouTube channel.

“I said to him, the best I’ve ever known since I’ve been here as a manager was his team, the best team I’ve ever seen.”

“And I don’t mean now, I mean two years, 18 months ago. David Silva, I thought he was absolutely unbelievable.”

Neil Warnock recalled his experience facing Pep Guardiola and Co. during his time as Cardiff City boss in a Premier League encounter when his side were beaten 5-0 in 2018.

“I said to him, I was on the bench at Cardiff one day. It was 0-0 after 25 minutes and I thought, ‘Bloody hell, we’re doing well here’. We were playing well, we had a good chance. And we come in 3-0 down at half-time and the third goal was unbelievable.”

“I’m stood there, and I’m the manager and I’m saying, ‘What a goal Bernardo Silva’, third goal. Well, that’s what they do to you, the way they play.”

Neil Warnock concluded his praise of Pep Guardiola by giving him the ultimate compliment.

“He could’ve done that with anybody, he’s a good manager. Probably the best there is. He says, ‘Can I pick your brains?’. I went to him, second half of that game, 3-0 down, I said, ‘Pep, any chance of loaning David Silva for a few weeks?’.”

Shows the admiration managers have for Pep Guardiola

While those outside the footballing world may have plenty of unpopular opinions about several greats of the game like Pep Guardiola, experienced managers like Neil Warnock need no convincing of his brilliance.

Having faced Guardiola’s side and witnessed their one-of-a-kind footballing principles front and centre, Warnock has rightly claimed that English football is yet to have seen a team like his City side.

From the way that they play to their dominance over the last few years, the ex-Huddersfield Town manager has a point.

Interestingly, Neil Warnock also emphasised that Pep Guardiola could have made any group of players play his way, which is often argued by his critics as they believe he simply has several elite players on his books and as a result, any manager would win trophies galore with them at their disposal.

However, to say that would be a case of failing to acknowledge the Spaniard’s unique tactical ideas, which Warnock witnessed as his Cardiff side got annihilated by Manchester City six years ago.
