Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Man City have a ‘gem’ of a player who just doesn’t care about his stats

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Man City have a ‘gem’ of a player who just doesn’t care about his stats

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has waxed lyrical about one Manchester City player.

Former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been out of management since being sacked at Old Trafford in late 2021.

The Norwegian had a great start at Manchester City’s neighbours but things soon turned sour.

Though Solskjaer saw his club spend millions on new signings, United still missed out on several players he really wanted like Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland.

Solskjaer helped nurture Haaland’s remarkable talent when he was a teenager at Molde and was desperate to bring him to United but the club didn’t follow his advice.

It worked out very well for City but Solskjaer is still full of praise for the striker.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Erling Haaland

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Solskjaer said: “You know that kid gives everyone so much energy.

“He’s such a great lad. To see him smiling. He’s got more than just being a great lad.

“He’s a team player and one-on-one with the keeper, he doesn’t think about his own stats.

“He passes if someone else is… if I can give it to you and it’s a 100 per cent goal. He’s a gem.”

Erling Haaland’s career couldn’t have gone better

Haaland couldn’t have picked a better career path if he tried.

The move to Borussia Dortmund rather than an immediate switch to a massive club was very smart as he was able to step up his development without being in the brightest limelight.

Then, when it was absolutely clear he was the best striker on the planet, City swooped in and the rest is history.

His 52 goals in 53 games fired City to the treble triumph last season and his tally has now reached a remarkable 80 already.

Imagine how many goals he’d score if he did care about his stats.
