Pep Guardiola in tears as Mike Arteta hijacked top transfer deal wanted by Manchester City
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has signed a new 10-year contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2034, the club announced on Friday.
The 24-year-old Norwegian, who joined City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, has been a pivotal figure in the club’s recent successes.
His initial contract was set to expire in 2027, but the new deal reflects the club’s confidence in Haaland’s importance to their future.
“Erling Haaland has signed a new 10-year Manchester City contract, keeping him at the Club until the summer of 2034,” the statement said.
Reflecting on the new contract, Haaland expressed his delight at extending his stay.
“I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great club.
“Manchester City is a special club, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters, and it’s the type of environment that helps bring the best out of everybody,” he said.
Haaland thanked his teammates, manager Pep Guardiola, and the City staff, stating, “They have made this such a special place to be, and now I am City no matter what. I want to keep developing, keep working to get better, and help us achieve more success going forward.”
Since his arrival, Haaland’s impact has been nothing short of extraordinary. In his debut 2022/23 season, he scored 52 goals across all competitions, the highest-ever tally by a Premier League player in a single season, breaking the previous league record of 36 goals.
His goals were instrumental in City’s historic treble-winning campaign, which included the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League titles.
In addition to collective success, Haaland garnered numerous individual accolades in his debut season, including the PFA Player of the Year, Premier League Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year, and the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year awards.
Despite an injury that sidelined him for nearly two months during the 2023/24 season, Haaland continued his prolific form, scoring 38 goals in 45 appearances, including 27 in the Premier League, securing a second consecutive Golden Boot.
City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, highlighted the significance of Haaland’s long-term commitment.
“Everyone at the club is absolutely delighted that Erling has signed his new contract. The fact he has been signed for so long demonstrates our commitment to him as a player and his love for this club.
“He has made an incredible impact already, and his amazing numbers and records speak for themselves. But beyond his natural talent and ability, it’s Erling’s dedication, professionalism, humility, and desire to keep improving that set him apart. If he works hard, he will create an incredible legacy at this football club,” Begiristain said.
With 21 goals already in the current 2024/25 season, Haaland’s total tally at City stands at 111 goals in 126 appearances.
He has quickly climbed to 15th on the club’s all-time scoring list and continues to set records. In September, he became the 19th player in City history to reach 100 goals.
The former Manchester City man has had his say on this year’s competition.
Sergio Aguero names the only two teams who can stop Man City winning Champions League as Real Madrid snubbed
Ex-Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero has named the two teams that he thinks can stop his former club from winning the 2024/25 Champions League.
Aguero, 36, is widely considered to be City’s greatest-ever Premier League player having registered 260 goals in 390 games for the club – including the winning goal on the final day of the 2011/12 campaign to hand the club their first league title since 1967/68.
He left for Barcelona in 2021 after securing five league titles, six League Cups, and one FA Cup, but the one trophy that evaded him was the Champions League. City lost against Chelsea 2020/21 final.
Aguero, who boasts 101 Argentina caps, prematurely retired in 2021 due to heart problems, but still has an interest in football.
And he has given a prediction for this year’s Champions League.
“This is a new Champions League format, I think this year will be full of surprises,” legendary striker Aguero told Stake [via Metro].
“This format could help smaller teams to thrive and qualify to the next round. This might also complicate things for bigger clubs to qualify.
“I’ve always felt that the favourite to win the tournament is Manchester City, and then Real Madrid, but I also see a very strong Arsenal team.

“However, I do hope both Man City and Barca can conquer this edition. Even though I’ve seen City struggle in some Premier matches this season, it is the same club we know, controlling the games from start to finish.
“But to tell you my prediction, I feel that this year’s final will have two teams that no one is expecting.”
Liverpool currently top the 36-team group phase with a perfect six wins from six games record with Barcelona, Arsenal and Bayer Leverkusen making up the top four teams who are most likely to progress to the round of 16 stage.
Barca’s captain Raphinha has already explained how he thinks his side will face Man City in this year’s final which will take place in Munich, Germany on Saturday 31 May.
While Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side are in a comfortable position in Europe’s premier competition and will be hoping to add another win to their record when they face Dinamo Zagreb at the Emirates on Wednesday 22 January.
The Gunners have never won the competition but Arteta, 42, admitted he is “motivated” to change that this season.
“I’m extremely motivated,” he said when speaking to TNT Sports in September. “It’s a competition that we love playing, every player loves playing and here we are again.
“Success, I think, at this level is actually to win it. But we made some bigger steps [last season] I think. We learn a lot from the experience.
“We had some great moments, some other moments that we have to do better and improve. We have to put those learnings into this season.”
Erling Haaland has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to Manchester City by signing a new contract, extending his stay at the club until 2034. This decision solidifies his position as a central figure in the team’s long-term aspirations, reflecting both his loyalty to the club and his confidence in their shared ambitions.
Speaking about his future and the expectations that come with his role, Haaland exuded a sense of calm and determination. “Pressure? No problem. I’m staying here for a long time; I am City no matter what,” he declared, encapsulating his mindset and resolve. His statement demonstrates not only his resilience but also his readiness to shoulder the weight of expectations that accompany his immense talent.
Furthermore, Haaland expressed his embrace of high standards, stating, “I want people to demand a lot from me and put pressure on me!” This sentiment underscores his competitive spirit and desire to consistently perform at the highest level. As Manchester City continues to aim for domestic and international success, Haaland’s presence and attitude are poised to remain pivotal, ensuring he remains a cornerstone of the club’s endeavors for years to come.
