Pep Guardiola Reacts after Fabrizio Romano confirmed Jack Grealish is “almost guaranteed” to leave Manchester City

Jack Grealish’s spell at Manchester City is one that splits opinion.

On one hand, a peek at the Englishman’s trophy cabinet would prompt many to claim that his time at the Etihad Stadium has been a rousing success.

But on the other hand, Grealish has barely played this season and Fabrizio Romano confirmed he is “almost guaranteed” to leave Manchester City this summer after Pep Guardiola has excluded him from his squad to face Fulham.

As a result, the former Aston Villa winger’s time at City could be viewed by others as a failure as he has been on the periphery of things since being a key player when they won the treble.

Manchester City fans have been left divided about Jack Grealish once again as it looks like he could be on the chopping block in the summer.

Man City fans split after hearing Jack Grealish is set for exit

Some Manchester City fans were delighted about the fact that Grealish is set to leave in the summer, with one writing: “We have been freed. Good riddance.”

Another City fan claimed that Grealish did his part but largely, his signing has not worked out: “Did a job in the treble season but it’s time to move on for everyone. I hope he gets the right move.”

A third supporter stated that with Grealish earning £300,000-a-week at Manchester City set to leave alongside other high-paid players like Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker, the Sky Blues’ wage book will be freed up: “KDB and Grealish out. That does absolute wonders for the wage book. Walker a fairly higher earner too. Should be a lot of wiggle-room in the incomings department.”

A fourth fan claimed that alongside the 29-year-old, Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan, John Stones, Rico Lewis and Manuel Akanji should also leave City: “Bernardo, Gundogan, Stones, Lewis and Akanji, they should follow Grealish and go.”

A fifth Manchester City fan praised Grealish as a character but feels the decision to let him go is fair: “Great guy but it is what it is. Didn’t score a goal in a whole year [between January 2024 and January 2025] so he has to go.”

However, other City fans were disappointed about the prospect of the three-time Premier League’s departure, with one writing: “No one can convince me that Jack Grealish is a flop. That treble season was special, I won’t forget your contribution.”

A sixth Manchester City fan emphasised that Grealish’s contribution to the Sky Blues’ treble win is one that should not be undermined: “Sad how it all ended…real City fans know how crucial Grealish was in our treble-winning side.”

Another supporter made a similar claim, stating: “He was amazing in that treble season, even against Real [Madrid at] home until he got injured.”

Finally, an eighth Manchester City fan suspects that Grealish’s struggles may have been down to Pep Guardiola’s utilisation of him and it is sad how his time is set to end: “Struggle to work out what happened with Grealish. The Treble season showed what he could do. Can’t help but feel like our system limited him massively. Perhaps he himself did as well. Immensely likeable. Shame how it’s ended, if it has.”

Which clubs Grealish could sign for after leaving Man City

It seems like Guardiola is done with Grealish and that was especially evident against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final as he decided not to bring him on and favoured debutant Claudio Echeverri as an impact substitute instead.

When it comes to his future, Manchester City are unwilling to loan Grealish out in the summer.

But the Sky Blues are prepared to let the England international leave at the end of the season.

Tottenham are interested in signing Grealish and so are the likes of Aston Villa, Newcastle United and AC Milan.

Whether the Manchester City outcast fancies staying in England or playing abroad will be interesting to see.
