In a press briefing, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola shared insights into the surprising transfer. “Most of the time all the managers say in the transfer window anything can happen, so this is the real proof,” Guardiola remarked. He expressed surprise at the turn of events but was unequivocal in his enthusiasm for Gundogan’s return.

Guardiola highlighted Gundogan’s exceptional performance at Barcelona last season, noting, “We know the quality he played at Barcelona. High, high level.” Despite the unexpected nature of the transfer, Guardiola and his team had no reservations about bringing the German midfielder back into the fold.

The transfer saga began when Guardiola received a call from Gundogan, facilitated by City’s sporting director Txiki Begiristain. “The important thing is he wants to come back,” Guardiola recounted. “He called me and asked about the situation. I said yes, and now we are here.”

Addressing speculation that Gundogan’s return might signal a farewell tour, Guardiola dismissed the notion. “The feeling is that he doesn’t come to retire or to remember good memories. We have time to do that in the future. Now it is time to put your shoes on and do your best,” he affirmed.

As Manchester City prepares for the new season, Guardiola is optimistic that Gundogan will continue to contribute significantly, reaffirming his belief in the midfielder’s enduring quality and potential impact.
