Pep Guardiola says Man City’s players have already done something ‘impossible’ this season

Pep Guardiola believes it would be “impossible” for his Manchester City players to have exhibited a better mentality than they have this season.

In December, Gary Neville claimed “complacency” had crept into this City side after their 3-3 draw against Tottenham Hotspur due to having won the treble in the previous campaign.

At the time, Manchester City had suffered three draws in a row.

Pep Guardiola seemingly did not take those comments from Gary Neville lightly [via HaytersTV], stating that the Manchester United legend would realise how “difficult” a task it was to win four league titles in a row as he had failed to in his caree as no team in English history has done so before.

While City can be criticised for several of their underwhelming showings this campaign, Guardiola perhaps thought questioning their hunger was bang out of order.

Now, Pep Guardiola has praised his Manchester City players for their insatiable desire to reach the top once again, while not showing any signs of resting on their laurels.

“Still, we are there. One point behind [Liverpool in the Premier League] after being the champions of everything. So, that’s good”, he said [via BeanymanSports on YouTube].

“I thought, ‘I don’t know what’s going to happen to my players after winning everything, how they will react.’ Oh my god, better than that [the way they have reacted] is impossible. Impossible, impossible.”

In September, Phil Foden revealed in an interview with Sky Sports that after Manchester City’s Champions League final triumph against Inter Milan, he and Jack Grealish had a chat about how they would ever feel as euphoric again.

Eventually, the pair put their heads together to set their sights on winning the quadruple, as did the entire City squad.

A quadruple for City is out of the question as Liverpool have won the Carabao Cup by beating Chelsea; a competition from which they were knocked out by Newcastle United in the Third Round.

However, judging by Phil Foden’s revelation, one can understand why Pep Guardiola has emphasised how much of a winning mentality his Manchester City players have shown this season.
