Pep Guardiola wants to sign former Man City player, he is now rated at €100million
According to reports, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola wants to sign former City player Douglas Luiz, who is shining for Aston Villa this season.
Manchester City may step up their efforts to recruit Douglas Luiz in the summer in order to be ahead of the competition, according to Football Insider.
Though he faces competition from competitors like Arsenal, Pep Guardiola has great admiration for the player from Aston Villa. The Brazilian international is valued at £100 million by his current club.
Since last summer, Pep Guardiola has been considering the purchase of a new central midfield player as a potential replacement of Ilkay Gundogan.
Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes were brought to Manchester City, but they haven’t yet fit in with the manager’s vision for that midfield position.
Declan Rice was therefore targeted by Manchester City; nevertheless, he ultimately decided to play for Arsenal, where he emerged as a key player in the Gunners’ title race.
Midfield is Guardiola’s top priority, and he has a number of players on his short list, including Luiz, an Arsenal target valued at £100 million.
Former Manchester City player Luiz has been on a roll for Aston Villa, who are hoping to finish in the top four this season under Unai Emery.
Last month, the Birmingham-based team put a £100 million price tag on the midfield player to deter potential bidders and refused to consider bids for him.
Man City are now making more of an attempt to sign him, to outbid rivals Arsenal. The Gunners want someone who can replace the injury prone Thomas Partey and form a midfield partnership with Declan Rice.
Should Aston Villa fall short of their goals, the Brazilian may consider taking on a new challenge. His career might be significantly influenced by Champions League football and the opportunity to compete for the Premier League title.
