‘The benchmark’… What Ange Postecoglou said about Man City after Tottenham Hotspur victory

Ange Postecoglou has hailed Manchester City after they beat his Tottenham Hotspur side last night.

The Citizens picked up a 1-0 win in north London last night thanks to a late goal from Nathan Ake, securing their place in the next stage of the FA Cup.

After the game, the Spurs manager shared his thoughts on the match, starting with how he views this current City side.

Speaking to the media after the game, Postecoglou had this to say about City and his side’s performance against them.

He said: “They’re a top team. They’re the benchmark. We’re not there yet and we’re under no illusion about that.

“I just felt that all of the second half was ok, the first half we were just too passive in a lot of our play and allowed them to get a rhythm.”

Looking back over last night’s match, the away side had 57% possession and 18 shots at goal compared to Tottenham’s one attempt.

This shows how dominant the away side were in an attacking sense, even though they only won the game with one late goal.

In terms of their overall performance, they were given a team rating of 7.32/10 from SofaScore, which is considerably higher than the 6.79/10 rating that Spurs earned for themselves on the night.

Bearing in mind how City are on the hunt to regain the three titles they won last season, it’s easy to see why Postecoglou has described Pep Guardiola’s side as being the benchmark for other teams to aspire to be like.

Looking ahead to the remainder of the current season, if City do end up winning another treble, or at least winning a fourth Premier League title in a row, this will undoubtedly increase their status as being the best side in Europe.
