What Tijjani Reijnders has already said about prospective Manchester City move

Reijnders is currently on international duty with the Netherlands, who are in World Cup qualifying action against Finland and Malta this month.

The Dutchman spoke to Voetbal International as he gave his thoughts on a prospective move to the Etihad Stadium.

“The clubs are still in talks,” he said, as per Goal.com. “For me, it’s a waiting game now. I myself have been involved very little. My father does that.

“The Premier League is of course a great competition, that’s what you dream of as a little boy. I haven’t had any contact with Guardiola yet, that’s not on the agenda yet.”

The Netherlands are yet to start their World Cup qualifying campaign, but there will be high hopes for them, and Reijnders will hope to shine.

“Tijjani is a super-complete midfielder with acceleration,” Ronald Koeman previously said of Reijnders, as per MilanNews.

Manchester City has finalized the signing of Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan, marking a significant move in their summer transfer strategy. The 26-year-old, who had an outstanding season with Milan, is set to bolster City’s midfield following the departure of club legend Kevin De Bruyne.

Transfer Fee and Payment Structure

The agreed transfer fee for Reijnders is €55 million (approximately £46.3 million), with potential add-ons that could increase the total to nearly €70 million. The initial payment of €55 million is to be paid upfront, with the remaining €15 million contingent on performance-related bonuses.

Contract Details

Reijnders has signed a five-year contract with Manchester City, committing him to the club until 2030. His move comes after an impressive season at AC Milan, where he scored 15 goals and provided 5 assists, earning the Serie A Midfielder of the Year award.

Strategic Importance for Manchester City

The acquisition of Reijnders is part of Manchester City’s broader strategy to rejuvenate their squad following a trophyless season. With the departures of key midfielders like Kevin De Bruyne and Mateo Kovacic, Reijnders is expected to play a pivotal role in City’s midfield, offering versatility and creativity.

Manager Pep Guardiola has emphasized the need for a manageable squad size and is looking to integrate Reijnders into the team’s core as they prepare for the upcoming Club World Cup and the 2025–26 season.

Background and Previous Interest

Before finalizing the deal with Manchester City, Reijnders had attracted interest from other European giants, including Barcelona and Chelsea. In March 2025, he extended his contract with AC Milan until 2030, which did not include a release clause. However, Manchester City’s offer and the opportunity to play in the Premier League under Guardiola’s management were decisive factors in his move.

Reijnders’ transfer underscores Manchester City’s commitment to maintaining their competitive edge by investing in top talent to reinforce their squad.
