Real Madrid are said to admire Rodri.

Real Madrid are tipped to come calling for Manchester City talisman Rodri – according to reports – with the player earmarked as the perfect man to nurture Federico Valverde and Jude Bellingham in their engine room. Rodri was a key player for Spain during their Euro 2024 triumph against England in Berlin.

His worth for club and country is undoubted. Rodri, 28, is also thought to have admirers at the Santiago Bernabeu, not least in president Florentino Perez, who is said to be ‘in love’ with the City star.

Spanish giants Real have already made one marquee signing this summer – with Kylian Mbappe finally joining them from PSG – while Bellingham was a high-profile addition last summer. The club won another Champions League last season after beating Pep Guardiola’s City along the way.

Rodri joined City from Atletico Madrid in 2019 – so the player is no stranger to Spain’s capital. He has totted-up 257 games for the champions, winning four Premier League medals and the 2023 Champions League – which came in a history-making treble-winning campaign for Guardiola’s side. El Nacional flag up the Rodri rumour.

Elsewhere, reports from The Sunday Mirror claim that two Premier League clubs – Everton and Fulham – are keen on signing Kalvin Phillips this summer. The former Leeds United player, 28, has struggled at the Etihad Stadium with a permanent exit deemed the most likely solution for him.

Phillips spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham, although he was unable to recapture the sort of form that made him an England regular previously, either. City spent £42.5million on Phillips in 2022 and he has only made three Premier League starts for the club.

He has been capped 31 times by England, but was omitted from their Euro 2024 squad this summer.

Callum Doyle has made an admission about Pep Guardiola, having returned to the club this summer after a loan spell with Leicester City.

The young defender is back with Manchester City after spending the 2023/24 campaign in the Championship, which culminated in him achieving promotion with the Foxes.

Doyle started the season really well under Enzo Maresca.

But he suffered a knee injury at the end of September, which put him on the sidelines until January.

Upon returning, Doyle then found it hard to break back into a team that had been doing well and was making a strong push for promotion.

Doyle returned to City after his loan earlier this summer, and is currently in the US for pre-season – and the starlet has been speaking about Pep Guardiola.

Doyle is with the City squad in the US and will be looking to get some decent minutes ahead of the 2024/25 season.

It is currently still unclear where he will be playing his football, but last week there was a strong suggestion.

There were reports that he was set to sign for Norwich City, having even gone to look at their training ground.

He will supposedly join the Canaries on loan, and the Championship outfit will not have an option to buy.

For the time being, Doyle will look to make an impression in front of £378,000-a-week boss Pep, who is someone he respects deeply.

He told the club’s official website: “It’s everyone’s dream really [to work with Guardiola]. He’s amazing, I’ll just take what he gives.

“It will be great working with very good players again. Learning from them and gaining their experience and using it in my game. It will be great and great to see the lads.”

Doyle may miss out on chance to work under Pep in Man City first-team

For a lot of players in the game today, working under Pep would no doubt be a dream come true.

After huge success as a player, the Spaniard has carved out an incredible career in management and is simply a legend of the game at this point.

It is remarkable what he has achieved, and since being at City he has changed the face of English football.

Doyle will be hoping to impress Pep now in pre-season, but he might be lucky to ever play first-team football under him.

It looks as though he will join Norwich later this summer, and then of course, it is very possible that Pep could be leaving the club next year. He is expected to make a decision on his future midway through 2024/25.
