Txiki could replicate Jack Grealish transfer masterclass by landing Man City deal for £85m star – opinion

Txiki Begiristain could have the opportunity to replicate the transfer masterclass he pulled off when he signed Jack Grealish for Manchester City.

Back in the 2021 summer transfer window, City paid a club record fee of £100m to trigger Grealish’s release clause and sign him from Aston Villa.

Having then gone on to play a big role in the club’s Treble-winning season last term, the winger has definitely been an important signing for the Citizens.

Now though, with the next summer transfer window on the horizon, Begiristain could make history repeat itself in a similar fashion.

During the previous summer transfer window, the Blues were linked with a move for West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta.

Since then, it has been reported that the Citizens will look to land a deal for the Brazilian this summer if Bernardo Silva leaves.

It has also been reported that the midfielder has a release clause worth £85m which is set to activate this summer.

This shows how it could be a similar deal for Begiristain to make as the one for Grealish was in terms of activating a release clause for a player at a fellow Premier League club.

During his time with the Hammers, Paqueta has scored 12 goals and delivered 13 assists in 74 appearances across all competitions, winning the UEFA Conference League along the way.

With 22 Premier League games under his belt in this campaign, the 26-year-old has made more progressive passes (135) and passes into the penalty area (34) than any other West Ham player.

In addition to that, the Brazil international also has the second-highest total of goal-creating actions (12) and successful tackles (37) in David Moyes’ squad.

Taking all of that into account, we feel that regardless of who else may come in and out of the club once the summer transfer window opens, this is a potential deal the club should definitely consider making.
