Speaking in his first press conference (via BBC Sport) as Bayern’s new boss, Kompany had this to say about Sane, including his time with the winger at City and what he plans to do with his former teammate going forward.
He said: “We had an unbelievable time together at Manchester City. When I was at City I was a little bit more than a captain. I won’t be that different now.
“It is a talented team and he is a talented player. To make it really simple, my job is to try to get the most out of Sane and out of every player in the team. From that, I will make no distinction.”
During their time together at the Etihad Stadium between 2016 and 2019, the duo featured in 50 games together and even racked up one joint goal participation.
They also won two Premier League titles and one FA Cup together before Kompany left the Manchester club at the end of the 2018/19 season.
Now that the former defender has reflected on his time at City with Sane and shared what he hopes to do with the winger as his new manager, this will definitely be something that a lot of City fans will keep an eye on next season.

Speaking at his first press conference as Bayern’s manager, Kompany expressed confidence in Sané’s abilities and potential for growth under his guidance.
“At City, I was more than just a captain. So maybe things won’t be that different for Leroy than it was back then,” Kompany remarked, highlighting the strong bond and mutual respect developed during their time together at Manchester City.
Kompany emphasized his commitment to maximizing the talent within the team, particularly focusing on Sané. “He is a very talented player.
My job is to get the best out of Leroy Sané – and every player. I won’t make any distinctions,” Kompany stated, indicating a philosophy of equality and meritocracy within the squad.
Sané, who has shown flashes of brilliance since his move to Bayern, welcomed Kompany’s appointment with optimism.
