Manchester City decided against signing Valentin Barco from Boca Juniors this month for two reasons.

Why Manchester City decided not to sign Valentin Barco
Well – according to Bolavip – the Argentina U23 international has been on Manchester City’s radar since he was just 13 years of age.
A deal could have been done for just €10m (£9m) – which is Barco’s release clause – although Brighton are now set to sign the Boca Juniors No.19 after Manchester City walked away.
Bolavip claim that Manchester City hold concerns over the 19-year-old’s attitude following a number of clashes with management at Boca Juniors.
Secondly, it is said that the City Football Group did not believe Barco could go straight into Guardiola’s squad, nor did they feel there was a spot for him at another City Football Group side such as Troyes or Girona.

City Football Group representatives told Bolavip: “Today I don’t see a profile for any team in the group. That is also why I think he is not a player we can sign. Before we made investments in players to lend and then sell, but today with so many teams it is difficult.”
As a result, the treble winners have allowed the teenager to join Brighton unopposed.
Manchester City do not need to take the risk
In our view, this is a sensible move.
Manchester City are one of the wealthiest clubs on the planet with the pulling power to attract most top footballers.
Therefore, the Citizens can afford to wait and see how Barco performs in England with Brighton before deciding whether to make a move for the South American wonderkid in future.

Of course, Manchester City will most likely have to spend a lot more than £9m on the Argentine if he does live up to his potential, with Brighton often proving to be stubborn negotiators.
Nevertheless, Manchester City are clearly happy to take that risk amid several doubts over Barco.
