“You will disagree”…Graeme Souness claims Kevin De Bruyne is better than Chelsea legend

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness is likely to irk Chelsea supporters with one claim that he has just made.

Graeme Souness has been speaking about Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne on talkSPORT.

And in a discussion centred around the 32-year-old, Souness claimed that he is a better player than Dennis Bergkamp, Eric Cantona and Gianfranco Zola.

It was a big statement to make, but De Bruyne’s numbers in the Premier League are incredible. According to the division’s official website, the Belgian has scored 65 goals and provided 106 assists in 250 appearances.

De Bruyne had a failed spell at Chelsea before moving to Wolfsburg and then eventually to City. Micah Richards, though, has suggested that the Blues may have found another De Bruyne.

Graeme Souness claims Kevin De Bruyne is better than Gianfranco Zola

Discussing whether De Bruyne is a better player than Zola, Bergkamp and Cantona were on talkSPORT, Souness said: “Yeah. My immediate thought is yeah. I think he is. If you’re an Arsenal supporter you will disagree, if you are a Chelsea supporter you will disagree and if you are a Man United fan you will disagree.

“No Arsenal fan will agree with me, no Chelsea fan will agree with me and no Man United fan will. But in my opinion, yeah.”

Difficult to compare Kevin De Bruyne and Gianfranco Zola

De Bruyne is playing in arguably the best team the Premier League has ever seen.

Zola’s Chelsea team were not bad, of course, but De Bruyne has world-class players all around him, making life much easier for the Belgium international.

Technically, Zola may be the superior footballer. He was an incredible dribbler back in the day, but again, De Bruyne’s numbers are insane and that is what counts in this day and age.

Honestly, it is hard to compare these two playmakers from two different eras of football, but because football has become a numbers game and De Bruyne’s are phenomenal, you suspect a lot of people will share Souness’ opinion, which is understandable.
