🚨🗣 JUST IN – Fabrizio Romano:Manchester United are intensifying their pursuit of Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba.
Holding repeated discussions with the player’s representatives — including fresh talks today — to iron out contract terms and salary expectations.
According to Fabrizio Romano, United’s strategy is to first reach a full agreement on the player’s side before approaching Brighton with a formal offer. This approach allows them to secure Baleba’s green light and avoid wasting time in case personal terms prove to be an obstacle. Sources indicate that discussions so far have been positive, with both parties showing willingness to find common ground on wages and contract length.
Baleba, 20, has been on United’s radar for months, admired for his composure, strength, and ability to control the tempo from midfield. The young Cameroonian, who joined Brighton from Lille last year, has quickly adapted to the Premier League and impressed scouts with his physicality and tactical maturity well beyond his age.
United’s midfield has been a focus area for reinforcement this summer, especially with the need for a dynamic ball-winner who can also contribute to build-up play. Erik ten Hag reportedly sees Baleba as a long-term solution who could develop into a mainstay alongside the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro, offering both present impact and future potential.
Brighton are expected to demand a substantial fee, given Baleba’s contract runs until 2028 and their track record of extracting top value for key players. Still, United hope that securing the player’s agreement early will strengthen their negotiating position when talks with Brighton begin.
As it stands, Manchester United remain optimistic about progressing the deal — but the next few days could be decisive in determining whether Baleba makes the move to Old Trafford this summer.
