🚨🚨🎙️ Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar has given his verdict on the ongoing debate between Andre Onana and David de Gea — and he’s made his choice clear.

Speaking during a recent interview, the former United and Ajax goalkeeper was asked who he believes is the better option between the two stoppers who have both worn the No.1 shirt at Old Trafford in recent years. Without hesitation, Van der Sar responded: “Andre Onana.”

The Dutchman, who worked closely with Onana during their time together at Ajax, praised the Cameroonian’s all-round ability, highlighting his distribution, confidence with the ball at his feet, and composure under pressure. He pointed out that the modern game demands goalkeepers to be more than just shot-stoppers, and Onana’s style aligns perfectly with those requirements.

> “Andre has the technical quality, the mentality, and the bravery to play in high-pressure situations. He’s not afraid to take risks, and that can give a team an extra dimension in building from the back,” Van der Sar explained.

While acknowledging De Gea’s remarkable career at United — with over 500 appearances and numerous individual awards — Van der Sar noted that football has evolved. The former Spain international was renowned for his incredible reflexes and match-winning saves, but Onana brings a different, more modern skillset that suits Erik ten Hag’s tactical approach.

Onana, who joined United from Inter Milan in 2023, has endured both highs and lows at Old Trafford, facing criticism for early mistakes but also earning praise for his resilience and leadership. Van der Sar believes patience is key, insisting that Onana has the talent to establish himself as one of the Premier League’s top goalkeepers.

This bold endorsement from a club legend is sure to fuel the debate among United fans — and perhaps add a bit more fire to the already intense spotlight on the Red Devils’ No.24.
