Man Utd can finally land Ole Gunnar Solskjaer target for free five years after £25m snub
Manchester United can realise Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s vision in the 2024 summer transfer window.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted to bring one of English football’s brightest talents to Old Trafford in 2019 when Fulham starlet Ryan Sessegnon was available for £25million, following their relegation from the Premier League. However, the then-Manchester United boss did not get his wish and the full-back and winger hybrid made the short journey across London to Tottenham.
But Sessegnon has struggled with his fitness since arriving at Spurs and has been unable to build up momentum, which left the club with a difficult decision to make over his future. Sessegnon’s contract is up this summer, but there is a one-year option in his current deal that can be triggered to keep him at the club.

However, Football.London claim that Sessegnon has already been informed that the option will not be taken up and he will become a free agent at the end of next month. He will not be joining Spurs on their post-season friendly trip to Australia, after playing only two matches under Ange Postecoglou due to injury.
Sessegnon had been seen as an extremely bright prospect at Fulham, when Spurs won a tough race against a host of Premier League and European top clubs for his signature. One of those interested was United, with Solskjaer reportedly very keen on the teenager at the time.

Sky Sports claimed that United made initial contact with Fulham over the prospect of signing Sessegnon and were the only team to be in direct contact with the club, amid interest from Spurs and Juventus.
Solskjaer wanted to bring in young, homegrown players to supplement his talented squad, but one of the division’s most sought-after talents turned down the Red Devils in order to remain in London, joining Spurs for £25m.
But he made just 57 appearances in the five years since sealing that transfer and had surgery on both of his legs in February, following continued issues with his hamstrings that reduced his ability to stay fit under Postecoglou.
United have had their own injury woes at left-back, with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia out for the majority of the campaign, with the area somewhere that new decision-makers INEOS are keen to invest in.

But with Shaw and Malacia both already at the club, a low-cost alternative at left-back such as Sessegnon could make more sense, should he be fully fit to return for the 2024/25 season.
United already looked to Spurs for left-back help in 2023, turning to out-of-favour Sergio Reguilon before his loan was ended in January.
At his peak, Sessegnon has proven to be an extremely bright talent and at 24 still holds so much untapped potential, which could be unlocked at Old Trafford five years after Solskjaer initially attempted to bring him to Manchester.
