Alan Shearer says player who left Manchester United on a free is the most complete footballer he has ever seen
Alan Shearer has claimed that a former Manchester United player is the most complete footballer he has ever seen.
The Red Devils have had a number of incredible players in their side over the years.
Sir Alex Ferguson had plenty of world-class superstars at his disposal when he was at the helm, and that helped him win as many trophies as he did back in the day.
Shearer had his chance to join Manchester United, but he famously turned that move down.
However, he thinks one player who spent over a decade at Old Trafford is the most complete footballer he has seen in the game.
Gary Lineker responds after interesting Alan Shearer claim about Wayne Rooney
Wayne Rooney is one of the greatest players to ever grace the game, there is no debate there.
The Englishman spent 13 years as a Manchester United player having joined them from Everton in 2004, and he was unbelievable at Old Trafford.
Rooney won five Premier League titles, one Champions League and 11 other trophies as a Manchester United player before leaving them on a free transfer in 2017.
It has been over three years since Rooney retired as a player, but we think he still doesn’t get the kind of recognition he deserves at times.
He is rarely ever included in the conversation about the best players in Premier League history, which is a shame as he was just incredible when he was at Manchester United.
Alan Shearer, however, has not forgotten just how good Rooney was.
In the latest Q&A episode on the Rest is Football podcast, when asked to name the most complete footballer, Shearer quickly said: “Wayne Rooney!”
Gary Lineker replied: “Yeah, not a bad shout, he probably covered the whole pitch most of the time even though he’s a striker.”
Wayne Rooney or Luis Suarez – Gerard Pique answers
Gerard Pique was a part of one of the greatest Barcelona sides in history, and he not only played with incredible players but also against them.
The Spaniard spent a number of years with Luis Suarez at the Camp Nou, and nobody can deny that he was a truly magnificent player.
The former Liverpool man was absolutely unbelievable on his day, and very few forwards even come close to him if you are to compare.
Just a few weeks ago, Pique was asked to pick between Suarez and Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney.
The former Barcelona man said: “I would say Wazza, Rooney was at that time, in his prime, he was incredible!”
That should tell you all you need to know about Rooney.
