While Villa and Unai Emery come into the game off their biggest win in a generation, a 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich, in the Champions League, United manager Erik ten Hag is battling to keep his job after a dire start to the season.
His side took a two-goal lead away to Porto on Thursday night, raising the prospect of a much-needed statement win, but United instead conceded three times, had Bruno Fernandes sent off again and needed a last-gasp Harry Maguire header just to snatch a point.
The 20-time champions are currently mired in Premier League mid-table with a negative goal difference, and are on four-match winless run.
Villa missed the chance to go joint-top last weekend with a 2-2 draw at Ipswich, but have won their last two league games at Villa Park, and will fancy their chances against a United side on the ropes.

Aston Villa vs Manchester United team news
Jacob Ramsey and Amadou Onana were both forced off in the win over Bayern and that leaves them as doubts for this weekend’s clash.
Villa are also likely to be without Matty Cash, while long-term absentees Tyrone Mings and Boubacar Kamara are still someway of a return to action despite a return to training this week.
As for United, Fernandes will be available despite his Europa League suspension, with his red card against Tottenham last week overturned. Marcus Rashford will hope to start at Villa Park, after Ten Hag revealed he replaced him at half-time against Porto for rotation reasons.

While United did do the double over Villa last season despite finishing eighth, things have got even worse for the Red Devils in the time since.
It is hard to see anything but a win for Unai Emery’s side, who will be on top of the world after their midweek heroics, and another defeat for ten Hag in what could be his final game in charge.
Aston Villa to win 3-1.
