Mason Greenwood looks set to leave Manchester United this summer with Marseille and Lazio having both been linked with a move for the striker and he could break a Red Devils club record

Mason Greenwood is set to smash a Manchester United club record with the striker on the verge of an exit.
The Red Devils’ academy graduate is due to leave the club this summer after Old Trafford bosses decided his future lay away from the club. He was sent out on loan to Getafe last season and the Spanish side were expected to pursue him on a permanent deal.
But it appears that he will now be playing his football in France. As per The Athletic, Ligue 1 side Marseille have reached an agreement in principle with Greenwood ahead of a move to the Stade Velodrome.

Marseille had already found an agreement with Man United to sign the forward. They will pay an initial €27.6m (£23.3m) for Greenwood but that could rise to €31.6million (£26.7m) with add-ons.
A move to Marseille was understood to be on the brink of collapse though, after outcry from supporters and the mayor of the city Benoît Payan.
However, it appears that he will complete a move with personal terms now agreed upon. There is still work to do on any switch. The 22-year-old still has to travel to France, undergo a medical with his new employers and put pen to paper on a contract.
Should the move go through as expected, then it would see Man United break a post-Sir Alex Ferguson club record. The Red Devils are guaranteed to make at least £23.3m profit on Greenwood, due to him being an academy graduate.

That is the highest amount of profit that the club have ever made on a sale since Ferguson retired. The next most profitable sale of the past decade is Dean Henderson’s exit from Old Trafford.

The goalkeeper left the club last summer in a £20m move to Premier League rivals Crystal Palace but the switch has not worked out as intended. He made just 20 appearances in all competitions for the Eagles after struggling with injury.
Erik ten Hag has already shared his thoughts on Greenwood’s future and claimed the call remained with the club hierarchy. Speaking last year ahead of his loan move to Getafe, he said: “It’s a club decision. Of course I have said my ideas and opinions but it’s a club decision. We all have to accept that.”
Suspended by United in January 2022 following his arrest for attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, Greenwood saw the case against him discontinued when the Crown Prosecution Service withdrew all charges, following the withdrawal of co-operation from key witnesses.

United had planned to reintegrate Greenwood into their first-team squad at the start of last season, but ultimately abandoned that plan over fears of a public backlash, given the sensitivity of the situation.
Asked further if he wanted Greenwood to stay, Ten Hag added: “I can’t say so much about it. But what I say is I shared my opinion about it so let’s see what’s going to happen and what the decision will be.”
Greenwood’s exit is just the latest in a long line of departures from Old Trafford this summer. Donny van de Beek, Willy Kambwala and Alvaro Fernandez have all been sold this window, while a host of first-team regulars including Raphael Varane, Anthony Martial and Brandon Williams were all released at the end of their contracts.
