Breaking News: UEFA Hands Manchester United Transfer Boost Ahead of New Season
Manchester United has received a welcome financial injection from UEFA, aiding the club’s preparations for a busy summer transfer window under new manager Ruben Amorim.
With several high-salaried players expected to depart and INEOS looking to revamp the squad, any extra funds are significant.
Although United have not secured any recent trophies through European or international competition, they are still benefiting financially. Despite failing to qualify for next season’s Champions League, the club has received encouraging news from UEFA.
UEFA has announced a major round of payments to clubs for releasing players for international duty—and Manchester United were among the top recipients.
The club received £2.71 million as part of UEFA’s Club Benefits Programme, which compensates teams for allowing players to take part in events such as the Nations League, Euro qualifiers, and the upcoming Euro 2024. This round of payments covers the 2020–2024 period, excluding the postponed Euro 2020 held in 2021.
The payout is calculated based on the number of players released and the length of time they spent with their national teams, with a set amount paid for tournaments like Euro 2024.
In total, over 900 clubs were compensated, with English clubs collectively earning £40 million. Manchester City led the way with £4.44 million, followed by Arsenal (£3.34m), Liverpool (£3.04m), and United in fourth.
Elsewhere in Europe, Real Madrid (£4.11m), Inter Milan (£4m), Barcelona and PSG (both £3.8m), and Bayern Munich (£3.75m) were among the top earners.
This funding comes at a key moment for Manchester United, as they assess player contracts, plan transfers, and prepare for the upcoming season. With Ruben Amorim set to lead a new era, every financial boost counts.
Manchester United are making significant moves in the transfer market ahead of next season, with reports indicating that they have reached a preliminary agreement on wages with Victor Osimhen, who is set to leave Napoli this summer. The Red Devils have been in search of a new striker due to disappointing performances from Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, who have only scored six goals combined in the Premier League this season.
United’s interest in Osimhen, one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe, is intensifying. According to Tuttosport, the club has already agreed on basic terms with Osimhen’s representatives regarding his salary. Osimhen, who has a €75 million (£64 million) release clause for clubs outside Serie A, could be available for transfer if United can meet that clause with Napoli. His potential move to Old Trafford would be one of the biggest transfers of the summer, given his reputation as one of the top strikers in the world, having scored 21 goals in 24 Premier League appearances this season.
Additionally, this move could lead to Hojlund’s transfer to Napoli, potentially complicating Juventus’ pursuit of both Osimhen and Hojlund. United are also in the race for Matheus Cunha, further indicating manager Ruben Amorim’s desire to strengthen his squad’s attacking options. Despite the struggles in front of goal this season, with United failing to score in 13 of their 33 Premier League games, adding Osimhen and possibly Cunha would significantly boost their attacking power for next season.
Osimhen has been a prolific scorer for both Napoli and his national team, Nigeria, with 65 goals in 108 Serie A matches and 21 goals in 25 games for Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig. Meanwhile, Cunha has scored 12 and 14 goals in his two full seasons with Wolverhampton Wanderers, making him another valuable target for United as they look to improve their goal-scoring capabilities.
