Bruno Fernandes discloses his requests to Manchester United before agreeing to a new contract at Old Trafford

Bruno Fernandes has reaffirmed his commitment to Manchester United by signing a new contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2027, with the option for an additional year. Before agreeing to the extension, Fernandes made it clear that he wanted assurances about the club’s efforts to strengthen the squad to compete effectively both domestically and internationally.

In an interview with the club’s official media, Fernandes explained his stance: “The club knew that I want to compete with the best teams,” he said. “They knew that we needed to improve the team. And I think that we’re doing that.” Fernandes emphasized that while he was realistic about the challenges ahead, he sought a commitment from the club to enhance their competitiveness rather than promising immediate success. “I said to them: ‘I don’t need you to promise me that we’re going to win the league,’” he revealed. “Because no one can promise that. But at least that we will have a team to compete and be competitive throughout the season, to try to achieve silverware and to compete at the highest levels.”

Fernandes’ dedication to United is notable given the interest he attracted from top European clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and various Saudi Pro League teams. Despite these opportunities, Fernandes stressed that his priority was always to remain with United. “But my first choice was always to stay at the club,” he asserted. “It was not even demands, but the things that I wanted to see: the club going forward, so I could see a future on that. To be honest, I look now and I see that the club is making an effort for that.”

Fernandes’ new deal underscores his commitment to United’s long-term ambitions and his belief in the club’s ongoing efforts to build a competitive squad.
